More about Leti Garza y La Banda
When Leti Garza sings, we are transported to a locale beyond our front door, maybe it’s a Cuban night club in the 50’s or a Parisian cafe—the point being, Garza’s music is as timeless as it is fiercely tender, filled with a sense of longing and loss, discovery and connection. Her music creates bridges between boundaries and borders, real and created.
Garza has been featured on PRI, The World, Tastemaker radio station KEXP and Cuba’s International Festival de Las Romerias de Mayo two years consecutively. She was given a Distinguished Music Award for her contributions to Texas music at the Texas Music Museum. Her new album is scheduled for release in June of 2017.
Garza’s work is at its core a work of inquiry and discovery. A personal journey made public, of exploring and uncovering layers of assimilation, buried cultural influences and familial musical treasures.
“From horns and masterful accordion work to jazzy piano runs and virtuosic guitar playing, the record is littered with stunning musicianship and the sultry singing of Leticia [Leti] layered on top.”~ Pop! Stereo Review
“While such pioneers as Little Joe y La Familia, Joe King Carrasco and the Nash Hernandez Orchestra broke through cultural barriers, Hispanic musicians such as Grupo Fantasma, Los Lonely Boys, Vallejo, [Leti Garza] and Gina Chavez are now deeply embedded in Austin’s musical identity.”~ Austin American Statesman, September 30, 2014
